C. Installation Process


The installation process consists of three parts:
 
Part 1: Installation of Personal Oracle7(tm)
Part 2: Installing Oracle ODBC Driver (Version 2.0)
Part 3: CMS Installation
 

Part 1: Installation of Personal Oracle7(tm)

  1. Log on as Administrator.
  2. Verify that your CD_ROM is mapped to a logical drive letter and that you can access files on the CD_ROM. With Windows NT running, insert your Personal Oracle7 for Windows NT CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Press and drag the File menu to run in Programmer Manager. Browse and select the CD_ROM drive, choose NT_X86\Install\Setup.exe and click OK to run.
  4. Select a language when prompted. Then enter your name, company name and the location of the Oracle home directory. The default directory is recommended.
  5. If asked to Log off of NT to enable paths, select YES. Log off of NT and log back on as Administrator. Start again from the beginning.

  6. Choose Application Developer (complete) installation option when prompted. Select the Standard (20M of disk space) starter database when prompted.
  7. Select Yes when the default character set provided. The installation is just about complete. Read Information boxes, click OK to each one to exit Oracle installer program.

 

Starting Up Personal Oracle7 for Windows NT

  1. In Program Manager, open the Personal Oracle7 for Windows NT program group.
  2. Choose the Start Database icon.
  3. Choose the Personal Oracle7 Navigator icon.

The Personal Oracle7 Navigator screen appears. You are now ready to begin using Personal Oracle7 for Windows NT.  

Setting Up database for using CMS-DEMO:

  1. Create a user named 'ccm' with the password as 'ccm123'. Then click on the 'role/privilege' tab and add 'connect', 'resource', 'imp_full_database', and 'exp_full_databse' roles to this user.
  2. Repeat the Starting Up steps (if you have not started up database). In the Oracle7 Navigator, double click on Local Database, highlight user. Then press the right mouse button and select New.
  3. Use file manager to get into 'C:\orant\bin' and active 'imp72.exe' file to import 'C:\CMSData\Archive' to user 'ccm'.
  4. The next step is to install 'Oracle ODBC Driver'. Use your web browser to locate 'http://www.oracle.com' and download Oracle ODBC driver for windows NT (V2.0). Follow the instruction to install it.
  5. In programmer manager, click on 'Oracle on Windows NT' and select '(ODBC) 32 bits Administrator'. On the Data Sources dialog box, click the 'Add' button.
  6. On the Add Data Source dialog box, double-click on Oracle73. On the Oracle7 ODBC Setup window, type 'CCMDB' on the Data Source Name entry. Type 'LHA_1' on the Description entry. Type '2:ORCL' on SQL.
  7. Net Connect String entry. Then click OK and Close to leave the ODBC administrator.
  8. You can use 'ODBC 32 Bits Test' to test the connection between the ODBC driver and local Oracle Database. Click on 'ODBC 32 Bits Test' and click on the 'Connect' Button under the toolbar. On the SQL Data Sources window, double-click on 'CCMDB'. On the 'Logon to Oracle' window, type 'ccm' in the User Name entry and 'ccm123' in the Password entry. Then click on OK. If it successfully connected, then close it and run your application.

 


 PART 2: INSTALLING ORACLE ODBC DRIVER (VERSION 2.0)

  1. Use your web browser to locate the Oracle web page at http://www.oracle.com:81/products/free_software/.
  2. Download Oracle ODBC driver for Windows NT (V2.0). The download file should be saved at c:\temp directory.
  3. Open the MS-DOS prompt and type 'c:' at the prompt.
  4. Type 'cd temp'. Then type 'n200311 -n -d'. The 'n200311.exe' is a self-extracting file and will create three subdirectories under c:\temp.
  5. Go to file manager and locate the 'orainst.exe' file under c:\temp\nt-x86\install and click on it.
  6. Select a language when prompted. Then enter your company name and the location of the Oracle home directory. The default directory is recommended. If asked to Log off of NT to enable paths, select YES. Log off of NT and log back on as Administrator. Start again from the beginning.
  7. On the Software Asset Manager window, select 'Oracle 7 32bit ODBC Driver (production) 2.00.x.x.x' and 'Required support files 7.3.2.1.0' in the Products Available box by holding down the Ctrl key on the keyboard while clicking on both of them with your mouse.
  8. Click on the 'Install' button. Select Yes when the default character set provided.
  9. Click 'Exit' after completion of installation. On the Read Information boxes, click OK or Yes to each one to exit the Oracle installer program.

 

   ODBC DRIVER CONFIGURATION on NT4.00 XI

  1. Click on START on the left corner of the window. While continuing to hold down the mouse click on 'Program', 'Oracle for Window NT', and then '(ODBC) 32 bits Administrator'.
  2. On the ODBC Data Sources Administrator dialogs box, click on 'Add'.
  3. On the Add Data Source dialog box, double click on Oracle73, then click on 'Finish'.
  4. On the Oracle7 ODBC Setup window, type 'CCMDB' on the Data Source Name entry. Type 'LHA_1' on the Description entry and '2:ORCL' on SQL *Net Connect String entry.
  5. Then click on OK and Close to leave ODBC administrator. XVI.
  6. You can use 'ODBC 32 Bits Test' to test the connection between the ODBC driver and local Oracle Database. Click on START on the left corner of Window, Following 'Program', and 'Oracle for Window NT', click on '(ODBC) 32 bits ODBC Tester'; and click 'Connect.' button under tool bar; XVIII. On the SQL Data Sources window, double click 'CCMDB'; XIX. On the Logon to Oracle window, type 'ccm' in User Name entry, 'ccm123' in Password entry; Then click on OK. If it successfully connected, then close it and run your application.

 


 Part 3: CMS Installation

  1. Insert the CD with the CMS package.
  2. Click on Start on your NT Workstation and click on Run.
  3. In the Run window click on Browse to select your CD ROM drive. Double click on the CD ROM drive icon to open up the CD ROM drive.
  4. Look at the files contained in you CD ROM drive. Find the setup icon and double click on it. The CD will install CMS in the hard disk of your machine.
